GE To Merge TV/Internet In One Unit
GE announced today (Tuesday) that it plans to produce (with Taiwan's Tatung) and market a new type of high-definition television set that will allow users to access the Internet over a broadband connection without a computer. In addition it said that it plans to develop content with NBC Universal that will allow "Internet engagement" that will appeal to viewers. In a statement the company said that viewers will be able to watch high-definition video featured on websites and access interactive content. Darren Feher, who oversees NBC's technology division, said that the aid is to produce a "cutting edge product that responds to consumer desire for a seamless union" of television and the Internet.
ThePlatform Replaces Microsoft as AP Video Partner
Newsgathering agency The Associated Press announced on Tuesday that it has selected thePlatform to power its Online Video Network, replacing previous partner Microsoft (NASD: MSFT).
AP Chooses New Video Platform
A Seattle-based video company, thePlatform, will power the Associated Press' Online Video Network.
The roll-out is slated to be completed by December and promises to offer "higher video quality," according to an AP release. The AP used Microsoft prior to thePlatform, which is a subsidiary of Comcast.
"We've been very aggressive in providing top stories and breaking news video coverage wherever it happens," Kathleen Carroll, executive editor at the AP, said in a statement.
The new platform allows the AP to offer network affiliates an embeddable video player.
NHL to Offer $169/Season Live Game Streaming Service
The National Hockey League (NHL) is introducing a new Web streaming service, GameCenter Live, that will allow subscribers to watch most every game live from its website, The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday.

I talked with Pasko afterwords to get more. “Right now there is no choking, no throttling and we have no plans to do so,” said Pasko.
